Lovely Langdon Hall

A few weekends ago, in anticipation of the stressful house restorations we’re performing in the next few months, Arriz as well as I headed out to Langdon Hall in Cambridge, Ontario, for a bit of pampering as well as R&R. After months of planning the drawings as well as shifting the contents of our home around, we were already in requirement of a tiny break.

It was so sophisticated as well as charming — I called it my Downton Abbey weekend! If you have never been to Langdon Hall, it is a charming chateau in south western Ontario, as well as it’s an amazingly kicking back experience — particularly if you like food as well as health club services! It’s now my new quick vacation destination. I can’t believe I’d never been before!

Two of my much-loved spaces at Langdon Hall are the sun deck (left) where they serve a standard afternoon high tea as well as the bar lounge outside the primary dining room. Arriz as well as I ate our dessert in front of that fireplace after dinner one night. With nobody else in the space it felt extremely regal.

The staircase as much as the guest spaces features captivating details like 3/4 panelled walls as well as a plate rail full of an variety of plate styles. as well as I especially liked the black Celtic-feeling newel post.

Arriz as well as I played a couple of rounds in the billiards space (he’s a shark, I’m terrible). I like the green-on-green effect of the walls, lights as well as tabletop as well as even the coffered ceiling. Such an authentic English area made total with the oil painting, additional big fireplace as well as panelled walls.

Wine tastings are held in the red dining space where there’s yet one more fireplace. Langdon Hall boasts 58 woodburning fireplaces, which makes it the best cosy wintertime retreat.

This is a personal dining space for special occasions. I always get ecstatic to see so much cutlery on a table as well as the diagonal rows of white wine glasses. You understand there are a myriad of flavours to come.

This is the dining space that overlooks the garden. It need to be stunning in the summertime time. While we were dining, I commented that the set-up was impeccable; just the ideal amount of area between the tables as well as the ideal general number in the room, too. There’s energy however you still have privacy. We had a magnificent meal right here on Saturday night. Arriz had the tasting menu as well as the chef changed my meal to match his pacing. We ate for three hours!

After all that food, we wished to sleep, as well as I believe the highlight of our stay was our room. We had a just recently renovated space in the primary home on the second floor above the entry. It was charming as well as tranquil in shades of taupe as well as pale blue-green.

Here is a close-up of the matelassé coverlet as well as linens. I cannot rave sufficient about this bed linen — it was gloriously comfortable. I genuinely had the very best sleep I’ve ever had in my life. rather frankly, I would happily have stayed in bed my entire time there.

The two chairs at the end of the bed were a cosy area to enjoy TV as well as have a glass of wine. I would like to understand where this textured tone-on-tone stripe material came from. They’re essentially open-armed wingbacks — such a best balance of open as well as closed style — comfortable without overwhelming the space.

This tasty tart with homemade honey was waiting on us in our space when we arrived. Arriz ate it while I was having my massage, so I didn’t really get to try it!

Our space featured a number of captivating details including this antique demilune table topped with a looking glass on a pedestal as well as a quad of four eco-friendly bird prints. as well as of program our space likewise had a fireplace. If you ask, they will light the terminate for you before you head as much as bed.

I’m a overall bath person so I was elated to see the clawfoot tub in the bathroom. There was likewise a big glass shower for my husband (a shower person!). The inset tile work carpet detail was exquisite, as was the Victoria & Albert French faucet.

The floating vanity kept the shower room feeling open. It was kitted out with bath salts in apothecary jars, quite soaps as well as towel bars along the front for simple access.

Our space featured this separate entry with a panelled wardrobe door, marble-topped luggage area as well as this full cleaning as well as coffee station. So efficient!

Brass doorknobs as well as chunky curtain rods with full pinch-pleat silk drapes added to all the special touches.

In the morning we took pleasure in a lot more amazing food. Our eggs came in an iron skillet served on an artist’s palette.

And post-breakfast we went to a cooking class where we discovered to prepare a few of the dishes we ate the night before.

We spent Sunday checking out the grounds. A bowl of red apples is kept by the primary door for a snack while you stroll.

I adored this Camperdown Elmtree with its large canopy out back where I might imagine people dining alfresco in the summer.

As we walked we identified this large stack of logs — presumably to keep all the fires burning in the rooms.

It was a hazy day however there was a quiet, stripped back appeal to the paths all around the property.

Just like Lord Grantham’s yellow lab on Downton Abbey, Langdon Hall has its own citizen dog, a stunning Bernese mountain dog.

All in all, a much-needed weekend of relaxation. I absolutely suggest booking a weekend this wintertime if you’re in the area.

Stay tuned for my very first blog publish documenting the beginning of our reno stress, the basement demolition!
